If you are thinking of building a website for your business or you want to blog about what you are passionate about (create a personal blog) I recommend you build your online web platform with WordPress.

This might sound like a promotional article for WordPress, but that is not my intention here, I’m more concerned about how easy, flexible and low it will cost you to build a web platform even without knowing being a tech guru or learning web programming skills.

I’m a fan of WordPress Content Management System (CMS), with my knowledge and experience with about website design and development I’m confident to say it’s a great web tool for building web platforms, especially when you don’t have web programming skills.

When I became interested in website designing and development a few years ago I started with learning HTML and CSS, but when I heard about Web Content Management Systems I felt relieved, being able to build a web platform without worrying about mastering HTML, JavaScript or CSS was interesting and relieving to me.

I had to quickly adapt, initially I tried one other Web Content Management System, it was cool actually, I was able to build web platform by clicking, dragging, copying and pasting codes, but the thing is in this other content management system in some cases I still have to work with codes, I had to embed codes to make some functions work as I wished, it requires few technical skills, but that wasn’t an issue to me since I have basic knowledge about coding web platform.

It was easy for me to do the code embedding, it was also relieving for me, for I was able to build a professional-looking web platform without worrying about all the sophisticated coding required to achieve that.

But when I came across WordPress I was amazed at how easy and simple designing a website can be, imagine building amazing website or blog without touching a single line of code, yeah it’s possible with WordPress.

I’m not the only one confirming this, recent research has shown that WordPress powers about 32% of all web platform, topping the list of every other web Content Management System out there. Also, many top companies around the globe trust WordPress to power their online platforms, companies like CNN, Forbes, eBay and more.

There are many things that make WordPress amazing when it comes to building web platforms, but these six(6) stand out for me.

1. You don’t need to touch a code to build a web platform with wordpress

Coding is one reason why most people outsource building their web platform, most people don’t want to get involved with coding, and are not willing to learn mostly because of the idea of dealing with numbers.

The idea of not dealing with codes is one thing WordPress content management system has taken care of and they did it pretty well.

You don’t need to touch or learn coding to set up your website or blog with WordPress, with just clicks and drags of buttons and icons, you can set up a professional-looking website or blog with WordPress.

2. There are hundreds of themes and plugins that can help you build whatever kind of site you wish to build.

wordpress plugin

This is one other thing that makes WordPress exceptional, although other Content Management System also has tools like plugins and theme, but the WordPress’ Platform is exceptional in this aspect, this is because of its large market, there are tens of thousands of developers who handle the dirty job of creating tools and settings that can help you create professional structured and looking web platform.

Developers already know what you want, they do the dirty job of developing themes and plugins that can help you create good web layout and accomplish other advanced functions you will be needing with your online platform.

It doesn’t matter what your goal is in the online world, E-commerce, real estate, news, hobby blogging, educational or whatever, there are thousands of themes and plugins in WordPress directory that can help you build any kind of platform.

Though some of these themes and plugins have premium features which cost some fee. But, the free tools on WordPress.org can help you build a fully functioning website or blog.

3. Easy installation

Because it’s trusted and recommendable, most hosting companies like WhogohostBluehost and other hosting companies integrate one button WordPress installation in their hosting Admin area which makes it easy for you to install WordPress after self-hosting your site.

This removes all the technicality that is involved in uploading a website or blog design to online through file transfer protocol (FTP)

4. Easy to use.

Ability to click on buttons and menus and a little guide on where to find some settings and tools are just what you need to set up a functioning website or blog with WordPress.

The back end (the Admin end) is interactive and very clear to navigate around.

5. Easy to maintain and manage.

With WordPress, when it comes to updating your website or blog all you need is to click on the update button on the dashboard which is made available when there is a new update, some hosting companies even take care of this task for you.

Some plugins can help you with security, backup and other sorts of maintenance, maintenance is one other reason why most people outsource their web project to a third party, but with WordPress, you can do most of these things by yourself.

6. It’s free.

The platform itself is free and most tools that are required to set up a well-functioning website or blog are also free.

You get each of the basic tools you need to set up your website or blog for free in wordpress.org, the basic cost you have to bear while setting up your web platform will be your domain name registration and hosting costs, other costs will depend on the advanced features you want on your platform.

Even on wordpress.com (an already hosted WordPress platform), it’s free, but it always requires an upgrade to the premium version if you need advanced features and control.

I guess you now see why I endorse WordPress CMS, it can save you a lot of time, stress and more importantly money in building your web platform.

PS.

There are two types of WordPress Platform out there, I have written a post to explain about then, you can read it here
